WHY CHOOSE HAIR DYNAMICS EDUCATION CENTER
As you read about the training we offer our students, try to imagine yourself in our classrooms learning all the methods of the cosmetology program. We want our graduates to be prepared and well trained in all the areas of cosmetology. Hair / Skin / Nails. You will learn in the classroom with the hairstyling students, with the esthetician students and with the manicure students. You will receive the same training as each of these specialist programs. Your basics in each of these areas will be extensive and if you apply yourself to learning all that we have to offer, you can be on your way to applying for the career of your dreams in just 15 months. You will have many more opportunities for success with all the knowledge you may gain from this intense program.

CERTIFICATION COURSES
We offer our cosmetology students three extra certifications as part of their training. They will receive a certification for microdermabrasion, chemical exfoliation and electric filing. Most schools do not offer this training for their students and if their students would like to earn these certifications, they would have to pay more than $400 - $600 for each of them and would have to attend another school for this training. We believe these are crucial to the cosmetologist who plans to work in a salon offering skin and nail services and want our graduates to have these certifications upon graduation.

SALON SUCCESS PROGRAM
All students attend our Salon Success Classes. This program is all about the steps necessary to build your salon business. Yes, your salon business. You don't have to be a salon owner to have a salon business. We train you to think and work your business to build it each day. This is how you become successful in the salon world. It takes dedication to build exceptional guest relations to encourage your guests to return and to purchase retail products to support the service(s) you have just given them. Salon Success teaches the people skills and business skills for success!

TEACHING AND LEARNING METHODS:
The credit hour education is provided through a sequential set of learning steps which address specific tasks necessary for the state board preparation, graduation and job entry level skills. Student Salon equipment, implements, and products are comparable to those used in the industry. Each student will receive instruction that relates to the performance of useful, creative, and productive career oriented activities. The course is presented through comprehensive lesson plans which reflect effective education methods. Subjects are presented by means of interactive lecture, demonstration, cooperative learning, student salon activities, and student participation. Audio-visual aids - DVD's and Power Point - guest speakers, field trips, projects, activities, and other related learning methods are used in the course.

OUR COSMETOLOGY PROGRAM
Upon enrollment in the cosmetology program you will enter an orientation program that will give you all the policies and procedures of the school and will get you started in the very basic hair care training that will allow you to enter the continuous classroom with ease. Our two day orientation starts with our school policies and then the distribution and discussion of the textbooks and kit items for the hair stylist training. You will then train in the basics of draping, shampooing, guest consultations, proper setup and sanitation of work station and tools, infection control, professionalism and learn how to use the rubric for the practical training of your course. All of this will get you excited to begin your journey through the basics hairstyling program.
All of our programs cycle in four week blocks. Our basics program for the hair program consists of three blocks (12 weeks) of training. Our cosmetology and hairstyling students enter the same classroom for four weeks of haircutting basics, four weeks of hair color basics and the last block consists of two weeks of hairstyling and two weeks of chemical textures (permanent waving and chemical relaxing).

HAIR CUTTING BASICS
In the haircutting basics class you will receive an eco friendly manikin head that allows the student to simply snap on the hair goods for the service they are training. You will receive four snap caps (hair goods) that will be used during basics and advanced classes. You will also receive one male bearded manikin. Your educators will train you on the proper handling and care of your manikins and cutting tools. The Pivot Point Program offers our students great videos that will be utilized during the instruction of the course and now that we have the Pivot Point Web available to all of our cosmetology students, you can watch these videos at home on-line to review what you learned during class. The educators will demonstrate each step of the cuts while the students observe and then complete the cuts in the classroom on their manikins. During basics the educators will teach 3 solid form cuts, 3 graduated cuts, 3 increase layer cuts, 2 uniform cuts, and men's cutting to include clipper cuts. Students will also learn styling techniques for these cuts. The last day of class you will be allowed to bring in a model to complete the haircut and style of your choice.

HAIR COLOR BASICS
During the hair color basics you will receive a color quad manikin that will be used throughout this block of instruction. This course taught by a very seasoned educator who has been with Hair Dynamics Education Center for over eight years. Hair color is her passion and she will be assisted in most classes by another educator. Prepare to get truly inspired and informed in the hair color class. Four weeks of intensive instruction and hands on training will prepare you for the student salon guest experiences. Hair color in the salon industry is a major service requirement and we will do all we can to prepare you for the salon and to be as successful as you are willing to apply yourself. HAIR STYLING / CHEMICAL TEXTURE BASICS
For the next block of the basics program you will train in the Hair Styling program learning short and long hair design techniques with marcel irons, flatirons, air forming, and wet setting. We will have a long hair design competition at the end of this block that will be graded by the students and staff of Hair Dynamics Education Center. Our students design amazing looks with so much creativity at this competition.

You will also train on manikins in the Chemical Texture program learning how to wrap permanent waves and the application procedure for chemical relaxing. You will learn different wrapping techniques and the chemical processing of texture services.

THE STUDENT SALON EXPERIENCE
At the end of this twelve weeks of basic hair training you will then move into the student salon to begin your salon experience. In the student salon you will be assigned guest services for all the hair services you just acquired during your basic training. You will be guided and graded by your educators in the salon. You will also be scheduled to attend a Junior Theory class three mornings a week and one day a week you will attend an advanced class. Our advanced classes are an extension of what you have already learned in the basics classes. We offer Advanced Hair Cutting, Advanced Hair Styling, Advanced Color and Advanced Chemical Textures. Each of these will be offered for one full block of training.

At the end of the first seven blocks of training in the hair program, you are now ready to begin your skin and nail classes. We will schedule you into 1-2 blocks (four weeks each) in the basics of the nail and skin care.

SKIN CARE CLASSES
In the skin care program you will receive the textbooks and kit items for this portion of your training. You will train with the esthetician students for eight weeks of basics and four weeks of advanced training. You will learn the following:
basic facial procedures using Dermalogica skin care products
waxing services for the face and body
back treatment
men's facials
basic and some advanced makeup techniques using the Makeup Designory (MUD) makeup line
microdermabrasion treatments
chemical exfoliation treatments
two additional advanced facials using Dermalogica skin care products
guest speakers
introduction to aromatherapy
demonstration of eyelash extensions
sanitation and safety

During the basics training you will be scheduled in the classroom full time. Once you complete your basics you will have time scheduled in the salon for your skin care services and you will also continue with your hair services throughout this time.

If you check with the schools in the metro area that offer the microdermabrasion and chemical exfoliation training you will find that the value of this certificate program may be $600+ per course. Our cosmetology students receive this training and certification as part of their program and it is included already in their tuition.

NAIL CLASSES
As a cosmetology student you will receive your textbooks and kit items for the nail program. You will train with the nail techs for four weeks of basics and four weeks of advanced. During the basics you will be scheduled in the classroom full time. During the advanced training you will be scheduled in the student salon for nail and hair services and part time in the classroom. Our nail students learn the following:

  - acrylic nail applications using OPI Absolute and OPI Clarite' products
  - fiber wrap nail applications

• electric file certification for use with manicures, pedicures and artificial nails
  
• nail art / introduction to fantasy nail competition
  
• guest speakers
  
• create a marketing project for nail services
  
• introduction to aromatherapy
  
• sanitation and safety

Our students receive the electric file certification as part of their training in the cosmetology program. This certification has a value of $400 but is included in the tuition of the cosmetology program.

The educators for the nail program love teaching and working with nails. They inspire their students to create beautiful nails and give exceptional guest services. Our student salon is equipped with modern spa pedicure stations and a separate room for the manicuring and artificial nail services.

SENIOR CLASS / Preparation for the State Board Exam
Once the cosmetology student has completed the hair / skin / nail classes, they will be scheduled to attend our Senior Class. This class is two parts. One block is dedicated to the review of the theory that has been covered throughout the course. Students will be given exam review books and will test in all subjects to discover how well they have retained all they have learned. This will be time to discuss and review questions about any subject that needs addressing. The students will be given a FINAL written exam that must be passed with at least 80% in order to pass this class and to graduate.

The second block is training for the practical exam of the state test. This class will prepare the student for each of the scenarios that may be tested at the exam and will be graded in the end with a final practical exam that will be a mock exam of the state test. The student must also pass this exam to receive credit for this class and to graduate.

SENIOR TOUR/BREAKFAST
During the senior class the students will be scheduled to attend our Senior Tour and Breakfast. This is a very special occasion as you will be taken to The Egg & I for breakfast in a limousine and then off to three salons the senior class students have chosen to visit and tour. This is an exciting day for our graduates as they realize that they have almost completed their training and their dream of a salon career is very close. We love seeing our soon-to-be graduates whisked off in the limo as they go on this fun trip. Congratulations Grads!

GRADUATION
Once you complete all of the classes and requirements of the cosmetology program you will be scheduled for an exit interview and given instructions to proceed to the state board exam. The state exam process will take approximately two to three weeks. Once our graduates have completed the last phase of the exam which is the written test and passed it, they will be given a license and at this moment the graduate is eligible to begin their career.
